Sheffield Children's University
Sheffield Children's University (CU) was established in 2008 and now has over 44,000 members who have collectively taken part in around 3 million hours of high quality learning outside of normal school hours! We work with over 70 schools from across the city and over 200 Learning Destinations (approved activity providers). Sheffield CU is part of Sheffield City Council.
We know taking part in CU makes a difference in Sheffield - each year our data tells us that children/young people who participate make more progress in their learning at school, and are much more likely to do better than they were expected to in their SATs and GCSEs. We also know it's great for growing confidence, motivation, self-esteem, and the most important thing about participating in CU? HAVING FUN!
Any child or young person attending a Sheffield school can join Sheffield CU…
- Through their school
If their school is currently subscribing to our service in Sheffield, pupils can earn CU credits by taking part in school-based learning activities either at breakfast clubs, lunchtime activities or after-school clubs.
- At a Learning Destination
All children/young people can earn CU credits by taking part in activities at a validated Learning Destination by collecting credits in a Passport to Learning (available from all Sheffield libraries for £3.50)
We do have a membership package for Home Educated children and young people who live within the Sheffield boundary - contact us for more information.
We can only track and award children and young people who attend Sheffield schools (unless they live in Sheffield and have subscribed to our Home Education membership package). However, we are working on a wider project with Sheffield Hallam University to develop and launch new CUs in the South Yorkshire area only. Contact us for more information.
